a heavy heart to carry

The first sentence: Once upon a time, they say, this was easy.

The last sentence: "Don't let go," she says, like favors can every be that easy, like that's all she'll need. Like the bed is big enough to hold the weight they all carry with them.

"Don't let go," she says, and they owe her so much they could never refuse.

"Don't let go," she says, and they don't.

The thing that made me want to write it: A burst of nostalgia. I just miss the faeverse kids sometimes, and I wanted to write the thing. So I did.

My soundtrack/theme song for writing: Song of Forgetting and Heavy In Your Arms, obviously, but also a bunch of songs that probably shouldn't have worked but did: Howl, See I'm Smiling, A Promise, a surprising amount of FE and a little NTN actually, Lion's Teeth.... And when I needed to take a break and laugh at something, Smash the Frickin' Fairies generally happened.

The biggest problem I had while writing it: Tess and Callum's POVs will never come easily to me. :|

Why it almost never got posted: See above. Also I went through one of those periods where I had stepped away from the story and it took ages to get back to it. But I did!

The scene that hit the cutting room floor but that I wish I'd been able to salvage: When I decided on a strictly linear timeline, I lost some flashbacks to how the three of them were before, and Ethan with the fae.

Something else that I want readers to know: No really, I'm so sorry two out of the three POV voices in this are shaky as fuck. I tried?
