General thoughts/How likely I am to write it: So the thing is, while I can kind of get into A/B/O that does interesting things with the society such a divide would create, I feel like I am WAY more likely to write D/s-verse, because.... Well, in practice, A/B/O stuff generally ends up being D/s-verse societal standings + mpreg, right now to the assumption that the relationships will have a dom/sub angle to them.

If I ever DID end up writing A/B/O, it'd either be because I decided to fuck with exactly that assumption and like... write a d/s relationship where the omega was the dom; or because I wanted to fuck with the pregnancy aspect of it, which is less likely, for me. I'm not gonna say never, but unlikely.

The amount of hormones running around makes River's head spin, and sometimes she hides in Inara's shuttle or Kaylee's cot to get away from the burnt-crackle-crunch-rustle-black of Mal's heat being suppressed, from Simon and Zoe and the Alpha's roar of mine-away that rises each time they catch each other and only wants to get out more because they're both so good at ignoring it. It clogs her nose and throat and ears and head and she forgets sometimes she can only hear it because she's wrong-wrong-wrong.

I love so much when you write River. <33333 I would also support you fucking around with tropes. Just saying.

<333 It's not that I don't want to fuck around with tropes, it's that I don't think I have anything in mind for this one at the moment. XD I probably COULD do something sometime, but I got nothing right now. (Though I could possibly write more confused-overloaded-beta-River-dealing-with-other-peoples-hormones. Not MUCH more, but more.)

Would I write D/s verse? Fuck yes absolutely if I can just get my writing brains together I will stake my claim in this AU. Look I really love this concept. I know the social dynamics are probably not what would ACTUALLY come from a world like this but I love it anyway. Social issues and kink and self-identity stuff it is like my favorite stuff all put together.

... I would actually totally do it for Newsflesh too, because two ideas immediately jump to mind and I feel like either could make an interesting story -- so while I could also probably write the one where they're both switches and kind of angry at the world about it, I'm much more here for either: sub!George who is SPITTING GODDAMN NAILS ANGRY AT THE WORLD ABOUT IT because fuck you subs are totally valid; or sub!Shaun who is cheerily spitting in your face about the idea that all Irwins are doms.

Either way it involves a lot of "your social set-up is bad and you should feel bad about it COME TO THE SITE AND LET ME LECTURE YOU ON WHY also zombies" from both of them really.

There's always been a couple of people with weird genetic markers, people who can't test right or whose markers have to be specially interpreted -- or at least, that's what the books say, and if they're all people with a little too much money and connections to have to deal with the blow of having that 's' for life, nobody's admitted that yet. And Shaun knows that, even if for some reason his tests did come out weird, that's what he should be marked at.

"It would be so much easier for you," Mom continues, serious and gentle with him like she was when they explained George's condition, and Shaun's stomach flips between nausea at having to have this conversation at all, at the stupid feeling that he's letting her down somehow by being a sub, and anger that she can make him feel this way. "If your father hadn't started so soon after the Rising, even he'd never have gotten as far as he did."

And he's a Newsie, she doesn't have to say. In a lot of fields, subs can get a lot farther than they could before the Rising -- Shaun's done all the required reading, and then more, when he started having the feeling he might end up on the wrong side of the line -- but Irwins are weirdly traditional about it. Subs just don't sit well with people who pride themselves on having a death wish. Newsies have a better time, and even that's hard to break into unless you've got a lot of steam behind you and a little bit of luck finding the big stories; most of the big-name subs in blogging are Fictionals or Antis.

Mom is waiting for an answer still, looking at him like it's all worry, all for him, not like she'll have to figure out a new way to spin things if he can't be the big, brave dom Irwin to follow in her footsteps, and Shaun pastes on his best camera-ready grin like he's been practicing for years.

"I'll think about it," he says, and she lets him go even though they both know it's a no.

George is waiting for him when he walks through the door that connects their rooms. She doesn't even look up from what she's typing when she says, "Fuck her. You shouldn't have to lie."

He lets out a breath that takes effort to keep steady, his shoulders relaxing at the permission that he didn't want to admit he needed, and takes a seat on the floor next to her chair, closing his eyes and resting his forehead against her knee so he can't even see the glow of her screen. Another second of typing, and one of George's hands comes to rest on the back of his neck.

They'll have to talk about this soon; now that they've admitted that he's a sub and they both know she's not, they're going to have to talk about all the things they've been getting away with by pretending they didn't have orientations. But right now, he just wants to sit here in the darkness and listen to her write.

....I kind of love this. Like love this to stupid extents. Like love this to the point that I don't know what i have to get you to do to write me more but I will do all the things.

to be honest I really kind of want to turn this into a full fic now. I don't entirely know what would be in it but I want it. There are so many other things I should write first but I feel like this one would be... not fun exactly but I want it.

(I also want sub!Shaun and dom!George and hidden collars, both before Feed and during.)
(And sad deadline!Shaun having additional issues because people make stupid jokes about how his sister is no longer there to keep him in line and him being angry because NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM FUCK YOU.)

I love apocalypse/post-apocalypse fic. I love it a lot. And I would write it, I'd just need ideas. It's such a broad topic and there's so many things that can be done with it, both in so far as "total AU where people meet after/during" and "canon is canon until SUDDENLY WORLD ENDING", that I could do ALL THE THINGS, I just don't know what things right now. XD

Have a ficstart that probably makes little logical sense but is the first tihng that came to mind.

"Steve?"

"Peggy!" There isn't room for relief even at the sound of her voice; not with the timer still ticking. "Peggy there's a timer -- it's --"

"A virus," she interupts. "Yes, we know. Come back; Howard's found a way to--"

"I can't. Even if I could get back," he adds, glancing at the smashed navigation, "there's not enough time. It'd release before I got there. Peg... I gotta put her in the water."

His voice wavers. It isn't the last time, before the radio cuts out, but Steve plunges into the icy water with a sense of relief, the timer still ticking with eight minutes to go. The world wants to go dark, but he fights, his lungs burning as he listens; finally, the ticking stops, and he lets go.

He wakes up to a steady beep, beep, beep and a sterile, alcoholic smell stinging his nose, and everything is white when he opens his eyes. It takes a second to remember where he was, and he springs forward, yanking blindly at something that tries to hold him back. The beeping turns into a mechanical screech, and he's yelling without realizing it as four sets of hands try to hold him down.

"It's going to get out, the virus, it's going--"

"It's too late," says a too-calm voice, and Steve focuses on the new set of footsteps, the man in the long coat and eyepatch standing in front of him like he hasn't just said the worst thing he possibly could. "It's already out, Captain."

Steve barely feels them pulling him back into the bed. He doesn't bother fighting. If they're telling him the truth, what's the point in fighting anything, now?

Oh Steve, oh baby. *hugs him* I kind of love this a little, not gonna lie. I want you to do more with virus riddled Avengers and sadness and all sorts of terrible, wonderful goodness.

Look, the contract killer and the editor are basically curtainfic: the verse, that alone proves I will write this one. I don't actually know how much of my fic reads as curtainfic? But I'd totally do it even if I haven't much.

...Also this turned out significantly less ridiculous than I expected. I don't even know.

The schedule is as set as the rules. Evenings are for the show. Afternoons are for set-up, clearing the stage from last night's work and frivolities; for preparation, whatever might come up; for whatever business brings itself to light. Mornings are slow, in comparison; mornings are awakenings, reviewing notes, whatever personal business the performers might concern themselves with.

Mornings are for books and breakfast and slow conversation. Occasionally it's the slow scratch of the quill as they plan together, but most mornings are greeted with softness, shedding the layers and make-up and hardness shown to the souls trapped there, living their eternal night and unaware of the full lives the workers have earned.

Mornings are a hold-over from before they had so much space and so many to fill it. They started long ago, when there were so few people to work and so few souls to work for that there were hardly any rules. It was during the mornings that that list began to take its shape; during the mornings that they first spoke of giving the others who had followed Lucifer down a purpose, a way to channel their anger and their pain. It was in a quiet morning that Lucifer had first suggested, smiling like he'd already planned it all, "Why not a carnival?"

And he'd already decided to follow him; to help build whatever image Lucifer had in mind was far from where he'd draw the line.

In a fantasy, you are the seer that people go to for information. You're helpful as all get out but only sometimes and you don't like seeing people too much. You can get burnt out an d so you kind of hide away in an unsuspecting place where most people don't bother you.

The heroes definitely consider you a friend and an asset, though they know not to go t you all the time.

I think you would thrive in Tamora Pierce's Emelan. I'm not sure what role divination plays in Emelan, actually—you might be an academic mage?

I have never actually read Tamora Pierce! She's been on my list of authors to look into for years, but I've never actually got around to it.

...That said, everything I hear sounds awesome and academic mage sounds like an excellent job title, so I will take it anyway. :D

She's fab. Emelan is better than Tortall in terms of quality and diversity.

Speaking of tropes I would write the hell out of if only I actually had ideas. ... I actually don't READ a lot of wingfic, to be honest, unless you count characters-are-secretly-magical-creatures-who-have-wings, and even thing it's not... wing-centric? But god I would. I would read it, I would write it, I would all things it.

"Less than one in ten thousand," Mom used to say, like it actually meant something. "You and your brother are special."

Michael guesses that's technically true; the chances of his parents having two sons with wings were pretty slim. He might believe it more if his father didn't have them too, mottled brown and big enough to fly on if he'd ever bothered to learn. His mother might have believed that wings meant something about him and Nate -- that they were good, that they were destined for better things than they grew up in, that they'd be okay -- but Michael's first memories of wings were his father's trailing to the floor at an angle that made his stomach squirm even before his grew in properly.

No, Michael knew what wings really were: tools. They were never going to do anything for him; it was what he made of them that counted.

But Nate never seemed to learn that.

I want this too. I want this kind of badly because ow and I don't rea denough BN fic but I would read the fuck out of this.

... You know, while I wouldn't say I'd never write this, I think this is one that I'd need a specific idea for more than I just want to poke the trope. Partly because while I can enjoy crackfic for something like this, I feel like I'd rather write something heavier than that? And I feel like there has to be something I could use bodyswap to illustrate, but nothing comes to mind right now. (Although -- I now want post-serum Steve bodyswap with someone, because one of the things on my "I want to write about this sometime" list is Steve having body... not even issues but weirdness.)

"No, you're trying too hard." Tybalt's scowl on May's face is almost as weird as Tybalt's face screwed up in concentration, mouthing words as stripes surfacing and then disappearing across his skin. "Trying to cast it will only make it harder. It's already in you."

"Still not helpful," May snaps, taking a deep breath and glaring at him. It should be more intimidating with Tybalt's height and grace behind it; instead it just looks squinty, her hands on her hips giving the impression that she doesn't know what else to do with them. "Don't you have to teach kids how to do this? Pretend I'm a kid."

"Most of them don't have to be taught."

"Try shaping it like a spell." Toby's voice makes both of them jump; Quentin thinks maybe they forgot anyone was watching. "Obviously it's not working for her the way it does for you, Tybalt, so -- trying something you know better."

May looks thoughtful, closing her eyes again. Her hands move through the air after a moment, but this time there's a grace to it -- maybe not a cat's grace, but some kind of grace; and then there's the familiar sight of Tybalt's cat form on the ground in front of them, looking smug. It's harder to tell the difference that way; Quentin could mistake her for Tybalt if it wasn't for how obviously it isn't May in the scowling body next to it.

Toby's nose wrinkles. "Your magic smells weird."

(I realize belateldy that I have used fairly non-Toby words for things in this. I am tired and hot, I consider writing at all a victory.)

Oh kids! <33333 Tybalt and May are kind of my favorites and I have no idea why but I love them so much.

.... Look let's admit by now that I am easy for tropes and there is very few I would NOT write. That said, amnesia is another I'd want an actual idea for, rather than just having a desperate desire to write the trope.

That said: I don't think I could do justice to the ridiculous fic that is "Lucifer gets cartoonishly whacked on the head, gets amnesia, and the carnival has to sitcomishly run on around him for a night while he does something utterly ridiculous", but damn do I want it now. Here is about as much of that premise that I think I can ever manage.

The Ticket-Keeper gets down on one knee next to Lucifer's nearly-still body, tuning out the expressions of fear and worry going on behind him and particularly, pointedly ignoring the Scorpion's intermittent wails of "he walked into it!"

The master is still breathing, and that is at least a relief. The Ticket-Keeper touches his shoulder, and is rewarded with Lucifer's eyelids flickering.

"Sire?" he says quietly, but it still brings all the activity behind him to a halt, the carnival breathlessly waiting for the punishment sure to come. "Are you all right?"

"Hmmm?" Lucifer's eyes take a moment to focus on him, and an exaggerated frown crosses his face -- at least, compared to the amount of expression he'd usually give at a time like this. The less he shows his aggravation or frustration, the more terror his anger holds for everyone else. "Why am I on the floor? Who are you?"

You already know I love this. We should get on this sitcomfic. We should totally get on this sitcomfic and make it a glorious thing.

... I don't even know if I'd write this because I don't entirely consider this a trope? It's definitely a THEME a story can be built around, but tropes, I don't know. *shrugs* I could definitely write fic about food, I guess. If nothing else, this is what Cupcake is for. XD

Specifically the Newsflesh I'd write for the theme honestly would have nothing to do with George, Shaun, or anyone else in AtET; I... guess it would have to be about their parents, if I didn't want to make it about OCs, because I'd be more interested in writing about like... the changing culture during and after the Rising, and the relationship with food and cooking for people who remember what it was like when meat was safe.

I don't actually know if I could write that fic properly, but I'd definitely want to.

This is not that story, but, eh. Also man would I need to reread at least some of Newsflesh to try and write fic for it, I feel kind of rusty. I could maybe do George and Shaun but that's about it.

Maggie considers pushing for a moment, but she gets the feeling that if she pushes Mahir too fast, he won't break; he'll just shore up his walls and pretend there was never anything to see. Instead, she turns back to the pantry and busies herself with digging out all the ingredients; she's already setting up pans and pots on the stove, fiddling with them too long so that she doesn't have to walk away after turning the burners on, when she finally hears him speak again, muffled and so quiet she almost misses it.

"I can cook, I swear, I just haven't much lately. Nan -- she likes to experiment." His voice wavers; his face is hidden in his hands when she turns towards him again, leaning on the table like it's the only thing keeping him up.

He's silent for a minute. "She sounds nice," Maggie says, more to prompt him than anything else, and Mahir gives a quiet laugh.

"She's wonderful. Terrible taste in husbands," he says dryly, scrubbing at his eyes and finally looking back up at her. "But she more than makes up for it everywhere else."

Yeah, it's not quite a trope but I was pulling from trope bingo and it was on there, so I said fuck it and threw you the thing.

But I would totally read that fic, it would be super interesting. Also, I understand needing a re-read. I need to do that at some point soon myself. One day. Maybe.
