I am home early (YAY) and going to take advantage of this to catch up a bit on snowflake challange. i apologize in advance for the spam. which will probably be a retrospective apology by the time most people get to this post but, eh.

In your own space, talk about what surprises you about fandom. It could be a pairing or fandom you never thought you'd like. A fanwork type you never knew existed. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

- I like comics. I like superheroes. I like formulaic crime, medical, and law based shows provided they take things at least a little lightly and the characters are a focus worth tuning in for (think the USA original formula, not Law and Order). I like things despite them being bloody and gross enough that I watch from between my fingers because the non-gross parts are worth it. I like fandoms that are entirely audio-based enough to try and struggle through how easily I can end up tuning out. I like podfic despite the same thing. I like vids enough that I can actually notice structure, pacing, rhythm, so on. I never would have even tried any of these things if not for fandom, or people I met through it, and I never expected to enjoy them.

- People can not suck. You can have friends. People can like you for more reasons than just 'you are near me' or 'you are easy to mess with'. I was just out of some incredibly fucked up friendships, and dealing with both the issues of them and the issue of, well, not having friends anymore when I found fandom. I cannot think of a single person I care about now (blood family not withstanding) that I did not meet through fandom, or through people I met through fandom.

- Filk surprised me ten years ago, when I first discovered it existed. Filk surprised me again a few years back when I rediscovered it and learned there was a lot more and a lot better out there than just kids posting mediocre rewrites and occasionally really good ones on an HP message board.

- You are never the only one. Whatever you have imagined or considered or even had a passing thought about, someone else has, too. If you're lucky, they've already done something with it. Whatever you enjoy, someone else either knows they do or would if they looked at it. If you do it because you want to see it, someone else will be glad to discover it exists. If you're feeling one way, someone else has found the words to put to it.
