More Joy Day Rec Party

It's More Joy Day. I wanted to try and write or make something today, but I'm not sure that's happening, because it's a shit health day and I'm still weeks behind where I should be on all my lists.

However, you know what I can do at the drop of a hat? I can rec things. So come here, let's have a rec party.

Comment with something you'd like recs for. It doesn't even have to be fannish; it can be as general or as specific as you want. You can ask for fic, vids, icons, movies, tv shows, books, music, prompt lists -- whatever crosses your mind. I do not have an encyclopedic knowledge of all things, so if you ask for stuff I'm not as good with (where to buy stuff, podcasts, video games, recipes, specific fannish recommendations for fandoms I don't really inhabit) I may flounder a little, but feel free to try anyway.

If you want to toss in a please-avoid-or-warn-for, that's helpful. Feel free to ask for multiple things; in fact, if you're getting really specific, that's the best way to make sure I can help with something. And while I'm gonna try and shove things at everyone, if you see a request that you have a perfect rec for, go for it.

One I don't expect much for I haven't already found, but: Hellenic polytheist book stuffs. Or anything stuffs, honestly—hymns/poetry, rituals, essays...

Two I don't expect squat for honestly: Music that is free to reuse. Creative Commons Attribution is best license for my purposes. I do not know what else I want from the music; my purpose here is to record ritual stuffs that include musics in the ritual without getting tangled up in copyright bullshit.

Three and you might actually have something for this one: Fiction that treats polytheistic faith respectfully. Preferably with real Gods depicted, though created-world fantasy with created pantheons is cool too. (Skip American Gods, I know I need to reread it anyway.)

I -- might end up thinking on that a little longer than today. Hmm. I can't actually think of a lot of things, but I also think in the last like four years, 90% of the new books I've read have been Seanan stuff, so I'm having trouble dredging up anything else. I have the Wiccan YA series from when I was a teen, but anything else that even deals with religion or worship at all is kind of escaping me.

I WILL get recs to you, I just may need to do it when I can go through my books, which are still in boxes. I will think on this while I cook though.

Could you rec me some good and short examples of the major landmarks of fandom? Things like hurt/comfort, a/b/o, fluff, angst, coffeeshop, and the like? I feel love I need a survey course on how fandom does things these days.

I can do my best! I'll be honest - I may read a lot of fic sometimes, but I do a lot of my fandom in a lurk-y way, so I'm not always 100% sure how fandom at large is doing things. That said, I like tropes, I read a lot of them, and I can definitely toss together a rec list for you. <3

Just a question: Do you want me to avoid fandoms you're not familiar with, and if so, do you have a fandom list I can poke at? And if I can free-for-all the fandoms (and I can try and stick to works you don't really need to know the fandom for where possible, in the case), are there any fandoms you want me to avoid?

(A LOT of my reading has been in MCU lately, with yeaaaars in Harry Potter and an interest in Sherlock and White Collar when I was doing a lot of reading meaning I have a pretty big catalog in those three as well, but I can definitely branch out and provide a multi-fandom experience beyond just those four.)
