balsamandashToday has been A Day. I thought I was gonna have actual stuff to say at one point, and then it was A Day, and I am just too drained. I am staring at a twitch stream and failing to make myself do things.
I am not tired enough to sleep, though, and I'm rambly lately, so have another meme? I don't know guys. Memes are all I got.

Date: 2017-04-29 04:48 am (UTC)My knee-jerk reaction is to say Margot but I might understand her better if I got through the rest of S2? *shrug* I mean... in S1, I may not AGREE with everybody's motivation, but I feel like there's a decent handle on what's going on with people so nothing else is coming to mind.

Team science, just, everything and anything.
3. the character who scares me the most
..... Honestly I don't know if anyone really did, largely because I kind of paid less attention to a lot of the more murdery bits.... The angel killer and... the guy Eddie Izzard plays whose name escapes me right now both have some serious creepiness to them though.
4. the character who is most like me
*makes awkward hand gestures at everything* Like I have amazingly, ridiculously latched onto Abigail but I would not say I am reminded of myself exactly. I feel like Alana might be the right answer objectively? maybe? but I have no idea why and I'm real bad at seeing myself in characters.
5. a character I'd have liked to see more of
why did they kill Abigail and bring her back for two minutes only to kill her again. WHY.
But okay, if we're talking about characters I feel should have had a bigger place in the narrative for story reasons, I honestly do think Bev should have had a bigger role to play for longer before her death. It's a little bit bias but not entirely. Also I feel like as of the parts of S2 I saw there was still a lot more to do with Bedelia's character and I don't know if S3 ever got around to diving into what she actually knew/her own past the way I wanted.
6. one thing I dislike about my fave character
Abigail has a good few negative traits but I actually really LIKE her negative traits, so it's hard to think of something I actively dislike instead of just going oh honey no over. Uh. Besides her trusting the wrong people and, you know, dying, I got nothing.
7. one thing I like about my hated character
.... I don't really hate anyone that I can remember.
8. a quote or scene that haunts me
On a personal level, The traumatized are unpredictable because we know we can survive. kind of hits a weird cord for me. On just a story level, the beginning of the episode where they find Bev's body is goddamn intense, and one of the moments that have always stood out most to me is Abigail talking to Jack and Alana over the corpse, saying "I survived".
9. a character I wish died but didn’t
Ehhh. I mean, I wish they'd killed someone else off after S2, because GODDAMMIT I just wanted more Abigail. Other than that I got nothing.
10. my ship that never sailed
Canon would have done murder family in a way I wanted more often than fanon does. Sigh. Also I will forever ship the science team.

It is the best part of the trilogy honestly I just love it so much.
Okay but interactions specifically: Lloyd and anyone, and also Dolls' narrator watching sadly from the sidelines; Priscilla and Jasper; and John and Jackie talk so briefly but god I love them, as well as Jackie and Thomas talking not-quite-at each other.
3. the character who scares me the most
Honestly Edgar is kind of genuinely creepy, like, sure, let's fuck over a bunch of lives and afterlives to get back the girl who dumped me! I don't think anyone's really SCARY exactly, but.
4. the character who is most like me
I am, of course, whoever the story needs me to be. And any time a voice is narrating your life, it's me.
... No, I'm not really anything like Lloyd. Uh. Is it just weirdly self-affirming if I say Priscilla? Because the "super sheltered" thing kind of speaks to me. Actually, probably Connor? I feel like Connor is closer. Or maybe act three Lee.
5. a character I'd have liked to see more of
NARRATOR. LLOYD. I WANT TO KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM. IS THE NARRATOR SECRETLY ACTUALLY THERE? ANSWERS, SHAPERA. GIVE THEM TO ME.
Ahem.
Also Adrian. I understand why we get so little Adrian, so that the SURPRISE GAY is an actual reveal, but I really want to know more about Adrian. And on a purely character-favorite level, fuck, I love Byron, and I want to loudly announce-sing all his speeches, and I want him to have more of them. XD
6. one thing I dislike about my fave character
LLOYD WHY ARE YOU SUCH A CREEPER -- actually I love that you're such a creeper. *shrugs* It's also really hard to pick a favorite. Uh. I don't know man.
7. one thing I like about my hated character
MY FRIENDS STEP RIGHT UP, I HAVE BROUGHT YOU A THING, WHY IT'S A MIRACLE PROCESS YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE--
Basically Edgar's pitches are almost as fun to sing as Byron's political speeches.

God there are so many. If I had to pick one per show --
Dolls: Annabel's Lament, with circles never stop themselves a close second. (Also: Jasper wailing please, my angel in the background of The Day They Come.)
Radio Hour: For some reason, John and Jackie's reunion really gets to me. The echoed
you lost her/and i'm so sorry in particular. The Green Room Pale and the end of The Best of Times are both high up there too.
Atompunk: goddamn Postcards from Perdition's Trail, it's so fucking good. The end of Lee and the backwards message, too.

......I mean more than half the main characters are dead by the end of their respective plays each time so I don't even know.

I really like any time the crew is being, well, crew. Also, Tam siblings, and Book with basically anyone.
3. the character who scares me the most
Niska and the Operative are both stellar antagonists to watch who I would run far, far away from in real life.
4. the character who is most like me
So my friends group referred to me as their River for years -- at least one of them still regularly does so when we talk. I don't know exactly how accurate that is at this point, to be honest, but it's an association it got hard to shake.
5. a character I'd have liked to see more of
The Operative was really fascinating and I'd have like to see more of him. Also, I love Inara with everyone but Mal, and I would have really liked more scenes with everyone else.
6. one thing I dislike about my fave character
I wish we'd gotten more of River one-on-one with the whole crew; I feel like the show did not have enough time to give us every single possible one-on-one dynamic on the ship, and I never really got to see much of, say, River with Wash or Zoe. Other than that... I know there's some problems with Firefly, but River's entire characterization and story arc speaks to me really vibrantly and I would not change a thing about it.
7. one thing I like about my hated character
The characters I disliked were mostly antagonists, and the antagonists were interesting antagonists, even when they would be awful people.
8. a quote or scene that haunts me
Going... going back, like... apple bits coming back up. Chaos.... The sun came out, and I walked on my feet, and heard with my ears. I hate the bits, the bits that stay down and I work, I function like I'm a girl. I hate it because I know it'll go away. The sun goes dark and chaos has come again. Bits, fluids -- what am I?
There are a good amount of other things that stick with me -- off the top of my head, River in Safe, You gave up everything you had to find me, and you found me broken. It's not fair to you. You gave up everything that you had.... Daddy will come and take us home. And I'll get better. I'll get better.; Sometimes a thing gets broke, can't be fixed; I'll be your bounty, Jubal Early, and I'll just fade away.; and for some reason, Zoe in the deleted scene from the pilot, saying almost offhand as she moves offsceen, Once you've been in Serenity, you never leave. You just learn to live there. -- but that one speech hits me in particular.
9. a character I wish died but didn’t
I would have liked to see Niska killed off, but eh. Also I would be really interested in seeing how far you'd have to go to give Jayne a decent, in-character self-sacrifice arc -- not "the whole ship is in it together and in danger", but very much "sacrificing myself for everyone else and actually going 100% through with it" -- but that's a totally different thing altogether.
10. my ship that never sailed
So I'm not usually a shipper that wants things to happen in canon, but Simon and Inara had some really great, really interesting chemistry, and I'll be honest, I kind of hate Mal/Inara, and I think it would have been much more interesting for those two to get together. I also just ship it really hard in fandom and that's generally good enough for me, but I do think it could have been fun to see onscreen.
Also femmeslash. God, I just want all the femmeslash for this show.

Totally agree that Simon and Inara could have had a thing - they had a lot of strange things in common. Etiquette, for one thing.

Hmm. Probably Sousa, I think. Or maybe Dottie, but you know -- in a "I feel like I'm not supposed to really understand her" kind of way, if that makes sense? Like of course I don't know what's going on in her head, considering everything.

I honestly really love all the dynamics in this show, but I went into this with REALLY high hope for how Peggy and Howard were going to be shown, and I came out completely satisfied (at least through the point I've seen), and that's excellent.

Fennoff/Ivchenko is creeeeeeppy.

Uhhhh. I honestly am not sure.

MICHAEL CARTER I don't care if he's dead I want it. Other option: More Howling Commandos would have been GREAT. Also if Angie was in S2 I might have watched it already, I like her. :|

Peggy Carter is flawless how dare you.
...No, not really, but I can't think of anything right now.

............. Fandom uses Thompson's assholeness brilliantly sometimes in fic? Does that count? No? Does watching him get punched count, then?

Peggy's speech to Dooley, Sousa, and Thompson while they're interrogating her. It really sticks with me. Also the quiet scene between Jarvis and Peggy in -- 1x2, I think? When he tells her she requires support.

I really, really don't like Thompson. He just doesn't bring anything I give a damn about to the table.

Peggy/Angie forever. Foreveeeeer. (I also quietly love Peggy/Howard, especially when they're both kind of fucked up and it's not entirely healthy, but I never would want that in the show. I would have been totally happy with Peggy/Angie.)
